GOLD COAST DAY FOUR
Mum, Elaine and David went for a walk around the lake in the morning but I stayed home and watched TV. The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is only a few minutes away from Elaine’s place and we took Brooke with us. There were lots of birds there so I was afraid I would get pooped on like I did at school last term. We had lunch in the café and the ibis birds ate the food off our table when we left! The first thing we did was to go and see the koala’s – we were allowed to have a photo taken holding the koala’s and it pooped in mum’s hand.
We caught the train around to the other side of the sanctuary then I went for a ride on a camel which was loads of fun. We had to lean back when it stood up or sat down because it was very bumpy and we could have fallen off if we didn’t hold on tight too.
We were going to go to a show but it was full so we carried onto the kangaroos which were not so far ahead. We fed them from our hands and they slobbered all over us. There were some mum kangaroos with joeys in their pouches which was cute. We weren’t allowed to feed the kangaroos if they had their front paws on you as they might knock you over.
Lastly, we went to the adventure park and it was not an ordinary park!!!! We had to watch a training video about to use a harness and what to do, how to read the signs etc. The lady clipped me into the harness and we walked up the hill towards the treetops. Only two people were allowed on each platform so I had to wait a while for my turn. The first thing we had to do was clip onto the red strip on the wire and then walk across the tight rope – there’s a wire at the top to hold onto too. The second one was harder as it was like a flat ladder you had to walk across – Brooke only got this far and decided to go back. The third one was even harder as the planks of wood were loose and like swings when you stepped on them. I was so scared I was saying I couldn’t do it but I did do it. I was still scared afterwards because it was so high up. The next one was another tight rope but there were also dangling ropes to avoid. After that came I had to clip on the pulley as well as the clips and pull myself backwards across the rope towards the last platform. When I got there I had to wait a while because the person on the rope was stuck half way and had to pull himself across to the otherside really slowly. When it came to my turn I was screaming at the top of my voice that I couldn’t do it. I felt really scared as I could see the alligators underneath the flying fox but eventually I let go and flew down the rope really fast – it was AMAZING. I felt so stunned at the other end I could hardly talk or move but I felt really proud of myself for doing it! It was dark by then so we had one last pat with the kangaroos and went home.
